Stress is in everyone's life. Some is external applied by others and some is internal. Internal is developed by you. This stress can be controlled just like external stress but is more difficult because it is completely mental. You can't avoid the person or thing that symbolizes or invokes the stress. You need to change the way you think about the situation which can be very difficult. Stress can be classified into two large groups which are personal and professional. Personal being anything that does not affects your work performance directly. Here I would like to ensure the meaning that is meant by directly, this is a word in my vocabulary has different meanings
depending on the situation. A further point I wonder as I write this, do all languages have certain words that having different interpretations of the definition depending on the use or is it simply
slang to do such. Directly in this application conjures a picture of a physics lesson of direct fission and indirect fission. Fission caused by neutrons given off from the original fission event and cause
fission this life cycle are called direct neutrons. But if the neutrons are from other decays beside fission and they cause fission then they are indirect fission. I point out here this is not a physics
lesson so if I am slightly off then just get the meaning and don't take it literally. So back to fission ooh wait, I mean stress. Indirect stress coming from your personal life can affect your job performance but it does not come from your job so it isn't professional stress. This is a difference that is subtle but it is big. You can't raise your job performance without fixing it but you can't fix it at work. You must be allowed the time off work to do it. If you have a job that occasionally requires long hours at the office than this can make it extremely difficult to diffuse the situation. The opposite is true also true, to resolve or fix a stress issue which is professional than you must be at work to fix it. Now to make a clear distinction here there are three ways to deal with stress in a global sense which are diffuse it, fix it or internalize it. Diffusing it is simple, you realize that it doesn't matter, you can not affect it, so there is no reason to be stressed. Internalizing it, is difficult to distinguish from diffusing. Sometimes people think they are diffusing stress until the next occurrence of the exact same stress, where instead of a normal or non reaction, there is a blowup. This is actual internalization. You put it in a box and store the stress. You can store stress for decades. You can reinforce the boxes and think they are indestructible but actually nothing is indestructible, they just haven't found what will utterly destroy them. This can be an event or chain of events. You may experience or see someone go thru this. You may never be tested but understand that you may one day before you die may be tested and wonder how would you recover. You will not know how you respond because you don't understand total destruction until you go thru it. You should ponder if you will have the willpower to pick yourself up and dust yourself off and keep walking or lay there till you die? Fixing it can be extremely difficult. You need to change your way of thinking if it is internal or the way a person acts if external. Sometimes with an external you can try to change the way you perceive the actions of another. Assuming that the next time you encounter the individual if you maintain this new thought process then you have a fix otherwise it is a diffusal. The ability to deal with stress is how you use these methods to avoid blowing up, health issues and the occasional rant and raves.
