Searching for Normal
Why do people search for normal? Why do people not realize that what they do can be normal? Normal is what you regularly do. So if you stick with your values and react to each situation without or with minimal outside influence, then your reaction is normal. It is an ever changing thing, just like you are an ever developing person. Social stereotypes and the populace in general like to have a normal which applies to everyone. So that if you do not fit yourself in their cookie cutter mold, then you are not normal. Also if you do not see yourself like you see the rest of the world, then you will not feel normal. Even though you are constantly reminded by friends and family that you are normal and what you are going thru is normal. The fact is that you can not see yourself properly. You can decide what you see and feel is accurate enough but in the end, you are too close to the subject matter. Other issues include the standard you set for yourself may be higher then you set for others. This is extremely frequent in perfectionist. You set yourself up for failure when you do this. You consider yourself an utter failure and minimize or diminish those successes in your life. You are unable to see or concentrate on the positive about yourself. You may be able to see positive of others and be a problem solver for others, but you can identify all you problems in great length, but in the end you feel that the list of problems is overwhelming and unable to correct. You must put aside these feelings and tackle each problem one at a time. In the end the problems will be corrected and you will be a better person. The process of changing from negative thinking to positive thinking is a hard and difficult process. There are many roadblocks and obstacles in the journey. The first and foremost is the fact that negative thinking is self propagating. The more you have them, the more you think yourself worthless and feed the negative thoughts. Newton's First law of motion which states "Every body remains in a state of rest or uniform motion (constant velocity) unless it is acted upon by an external unbalanced force." applies here. A body at rest will stay at rest. A body in motion will remain in motion until acted upon by an external force. How this applies is this, if you are sitting with negative thoughts, you are continuing you journey to negative life. When you decide to change your thoughts to positive you need to overcome the negative thoughts in your life to start proceeding in the positive direction. Once you have yourself on the positive swing, negative thoughts will try to reverse your direction and propagate more negative thinking if allowed. Positive thinking has its own awards. You will have energy to do stuff, have confidence in what you do, and be happy. But it can be a long road in between the two. Normal is what you make it. So believe your normal and think positively and you will live a happier more complete life.
